Academic Program...

All teaching materials are carefully selected based on Christian principles and how well they educate students to be productive Christians in today’s and tomorrow's world. We also use additional materials to encourage students to think critically and creatively by exploration, examination, and imagination. Each teacher builds in time for creativity, fun, and field trips which enhance our CCS curriculum.

Pre-Kindergarten through Elementary School Curriculum

We utilize the A Beka curriculum for core subjects in our pre-kindergarten through 8th grades. The A Beka curriculum has been developed, tested, and refined over a period of 50 years in the Christian education classrooms of Pensacola Christian Academy and schools like CCS throughout the nation. The purpose of the A Beka curriculum reflects the overall desire of CCS, which is to lead young people to Christ and train them in the Bible, Christian character, and traditional subject matter so they have a firm foundation from which to evaluate the present and make proper decisions for the future.

Bible, language, mathematics, safety, health, and manners are taught beginning in Pre-Kindergarten. Science and Social Studies are taught beginning in Kindergarten 5, while History and Geography are taught in the elementary and secondary grades.

A Scope and Sequence chart provides detailed descriptions of each subject and is available for each grade level upon request. Supplemental materials are used in each grade level to enhance the curriculum. Core subjects may be supplemented with additional material to enhance the learning process. All material will be carefully selected by the Lead Teacher and Principal.

6th, 7th & 8th Grade

Middle School will follow the ABEKA curriculum in the core subjects this year, but to further enrich the curriculum CCS will be adding a new Science Textbook. This new textbook is from Bob Jones, and will help to prepare our Middle school students for the testing in the Spring. This year’s Math textbook will be a part of the ACSI Math curriculum. This textbook is easiest to understand and teach. It will also better help our students prepare for High School and beyond.

Standardized Testing

Standardized Tests are taken in late spring. Test-taking skills are taught throughout the school year. The teacher makes sure the students are able to follow instructions and understand directions. Additionally, the students have been instructed on how to avoid common mistakes and to go back and check their work. Students are encouraged to use their time effectively and efficiently. They are also exposed to a variety of testing situations and are trained to apply test-taking strategies to solve various kinds of problems.

Currently we administer the Terra Nova 3 by CTB and McGraw-hill to K5 - 8th grade students
